LASA together with Sassetta and SAQA have developed the Qualiication for national certificate locksmithing, which was registered with SAQA in 2021. This Qualification replaces the previous Learnership for Locksmiths and is a 3 year Artisan qualification where a qualifying learner will undergo external moderation (trade test ) at a centre with the National Artisan Moderating Body NAMB.
The design of the newly revised occupational certificate has made provision for part qualifications. These being Key Cutter, Automotive Locksmith and Locksmith Assistant. Completion of each of the part Qualification by learners will afford them an opportunity to operate as qualified occupation holders with respect to the part qualification area of specialisation.
The Qualification is aimed at both new entrants and learners that are currently working within the locksmithing industry. Upon completion of the Qualification, learners can operate as locksmiths within the security sector in areas such as key cutting, automotive, electronic, safes and vault and lock installations.
The Qualification is made up of Knowledge Modules, Practical Skills Modules and Work Experience Modules.
LASA has established training centres in, Western Cape, Free State, Eastern Cape, Gauteng, Kwa-Natal and Western Cape.
The Lasa Training Centres Offer Short Courses on the Knowledge and Practical Skills Modules for Key Cutters, Locksmithing and Automotive Locksmiths however the Learner will need to do the necessary Work Experience Modules before an
Assessment can be done.
The Learners completing these short courses will be supplied with a Statement of Results Certificate which will be needed when applying for The Assessment.
